Whitsundays

Whitsundays

A sailing trip to the Whitsundays is absolute a must do while traveling through Australia! Whitehaven beach is…..NICE!!

Last Thursdays, on the 20th of February, I departed around 1:30pm from Airlie Beach QLD with the Whitsundays Adventurer, a 12 passenger 3 crew member catamaran. Armed with my beach towel, swimmers, sunglasses and 12 cans of cold Tooheys I jumped on the boat with four Germans, four Swedish peeps, an Englishmen and another Dutchie!

Glenn, our captain, steered the wheel and sailed us safely to our first snorkeling spot. In the late afternoon, after spotted some colored marine-life we headed to sheltered water for the night stay-over.

During sailing I was a bit curious how I would react on sleeping on a boat, because I never ever slept on one and…. the waves, sea sickness, ye how to deal with that?!… Luckily I had no problems at all !! Pity for my fellow Dutchie, Kaylee, who did suffered a bit.

Oh by the way.. I was really glad I finally could catch up with someone from holland ! The Dutch are pretty hard to find during traveling in Australia. Most people I met are from Sweden, Germany and England. So finally I could talk about Dutch stuff, in Dutch for the next 48 hours… Jeej! Was nice to have you as accompany on board Kaylee!

Once arrived in sheltered waters it was already beer o’clock! Cheers! Toooooheys!

The next day, after a really really early morning dive, we headed to the whitehaven beach !… In the morning it was still a bit cloudy and rainy, but thank god, the weather was absolutely OKE while we arrived at one of the most beautiful beaches in the world! The sand consists of 98% of pure Silica which gives the sand an intense bright white color. NICE!

We spent a couple of hours on the beach, played football, captured some lovely pics, listened to music (I’m so glad I took my mini Beatbox with me from home), chilled in shallow water while being head bumped by little fish and..well.. just enjoying this special moment ! I’ve to say (again), this day is one of the highlights so far!

In the afternoon we sailed back to another snorkeling spot where I have taken the opportunity to try out a peddle board. A peddle board is an oversized surfboard where you can stand on and use a peddle to move yourself over the water…Peddle..peddle.. Peddle through the ocean, fun and a bit difficult to hold your balance!

In the evening the crew prepared (again) a tasty meal. First night they served chicken curry while the second night we had lasagne!..momom… Together with good food, Tooheys Extra Dry, a deck of cards and nice accompany we spent already the last night on the sea!

On Saturday morning, after a well sleep and breakfast we headed back towards Airlie Beach again…

Thanks Whitsundays Adventurer crew for safe traveling and making my trip to the Whitsundays unforgettable. Next to that I’m glad I have shared this trip with you, Caroline, Matt, Will and dutchie Kaylee!
