Australian Open

Australian Open

Last Sunday, at 09:00u I arrived in Melbourne after an 8hours flight (brrr…). When I picked up my stuff I took the sky bus to city centre and checked in at the greenhouse backpacker hostel, which is located closely at Flinters Street station. After having an shower and a little lunch break I went to Melbourne Park where the best tennis players in the world are competing for the Aussie Open title !

I bought a ground ticket which gives entry to all courts except Rod Laver,- and Hisense Arena. After being a little disorientated I found myself a way to show court 2 which is just near the Margaret’s Arena. First impression: what a great atmosphere here at Melbourne Park!! The weather was luckily much better then a few days before (40 degrees Celsius). During watching the matches, while sitting in the sun I had a little bit of troubles with my (2nd) jet lag… So I thought, whatever lets go for a spot in the grass, in the shades, and go for a little power nap. Ghee…I woke up 60 minutes later.. However, I hadn’t the feeling I missed a thing…

Fresh and fruity again I amused myself by watching some men’s dubbels (Huey & Inglot), mix dubbels (Paes & Hantuchova) and men singles (Berdych – Anderson). Also saw, on a big TV screen, the pretty Canadian Eugenie winning her match while sitting on a deck with a Heineken beer and sunset. Great first day Melbourne so to say…

Next day (Monday the 20th of January), I’ve explored a little bit of the city centre. Walked over South Bank, took some nice pictures and stopped at the crown casino where they had sort of Heineken chill area with a big TV screen with live tennis going on. I thought, let’s chill for minute which became chilling for a few hours (with a few beers). In the evening I’ve seen Roger Federer playing a great match against Tsonga in Breslin Bar & Grillrestaurant.

Today I went on a boat, cruising up the Melbourne river for a little hour, and went just after to St. Kilda beach. While writing this post I am sitting on the beach…. Sorry 🙂

Tomorrow I will fly to Perth (West Coast) for a few days…..

Ajuu!
